Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for our client with a strong background in HVAC and building services design. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design process from feasibility through to construction support, with a particular focus on bespoke aircon and ventilation solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design of HVAC systems (air conditioning and ventilation) for new build and refurbishment projects across various sectors including healthcare, education, and commercial.

  • Produce detailed mechanical designs including schematics, layout drawings, ductwork and pipework sizing, and equipment selection.

  • Prepare and review technical specifications, tender documents, and schedules.

  • Collaborate with project managers, installation teams, and clients to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and compliant with current UK building regulations and standards (e.g., CIBSE, BSRIA).

  • Conduct site surveys and liaise with installers and contractors to provide technical support during project delivery.

  • Perform thermal and ventilation load calculations using industry–standard software (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit MEP).

  • Participate in design review meetings and provide engineering input during project planning and execution.

  • Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design within the UK building services sector. HVAC

  • Proven experience working on HVAC systems in commercial offices, schools, hospitals, and public buildings.

  • Strong understanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and sustainable design principles.

  • Proficient in CAD (2D/3D), Revit MEP, and HVAC design software.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

  • HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Membership of CIBSE or IMechE (desirable).
