Job Description:

Overview

First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic business that is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong aviation background on a permanent basis due to growth. The position is based at their Staverton (Gloucestershire) depot.

Some flexibility in working hours is available upon agreement with the Hiring Manager; however, the role requires 2 days on-site due to the nature of the work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the mechanical design engineering team in producing part, assembly, and installation drawings, in compliance with the Design Office Handbook and relevant Certification Basis (e.g., CS-27, CS-29).
  2. Support the development and growth of the mechanical design engineering team.
  3. Support the development and evolution of processes and procedures related to mechanical design.
  4. Accountable for checking and verifying compliance of design data produced within the Design Organisation, subject to approval by the Head of Airworthiness.
  5. Liaise with other senior engineering functions and external subcontractors concerning mechanical/structural design aspects.
  6. Serve as the focal point for production and installation engineers regarding mechanical/structural design.
  7. Create and contribute to customer-facing design reviews throughout the design lifecycle.
  8. Manage and perform detailed aircraft surveys during quotation and delivery stages.
  9. Ensure health, safety, and environmental procedures are always followed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. HNC / HND / Degree in a relevant engineering subject.
  2. Experience working within an Aerospace Design Office as a Structures (Panel 3) check signatory and CVE, or evidence of significant progress towards this.
  3. Proven record of creating conceptual structures/mechanical designs.
  4. Knowledge of suitable mechanical/structural techniques and solutions for aerospace applications (e.g., material selection, corrosion protection, fuselage hardpoints, cabin structures).
  5. Knowledge of current and future aerospace structural manufacturing processes.
  6. Experience leading teams and projects in complex engineering environments.
  7. Experience throughout the full design lifecycle from conception to delivery.
  8. Experience in compiling/verifying compliance reports.
  9. Understanding of ergonomics and related design principles.
  10. Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD (training available).
  11. Knowledge of CAA / EASA Part 21 Subpart J (DOA) & G (POA) requirements.
