Job summary

JRL Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Technical team at our head office in Borehamwood. The role focuses on design and detail modelling for MEPS, meeting programme requirements and coordinating with customers and suppliers.

Required experience in mechanical building services design, site works, and specification writing. Familiarity with regulations and standards is essential, with opportunities to progress within a growing group.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in Mechanical Building Services Engineering design.
  • Experience of site works including mechanical condition surveys and snagging/inspection during construction works, commissioning witnessing.
  • Experience in specification writing (NBS/NES type) would be beneficial.
  • Experience in thermal modelling/EPC assessment would be beneficial.
  • Experience of sustainable design solutions.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations (Part L, Part F) and appropriate British Standards.
  • Knowledge of RIBA Plan of Work/BSRIA Building Services Design Framework process.
  • Ability to manage workload of multiple projects and prioritise.
  • Team working or autonomous work capability.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Membership of professional institution (CIBSE/IMechE/IET) preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • The design and detail modelling of a variety of suite components to meet programme requirements.
  • Managing and meeting cost and weight targets.
  • Communicating effectively with customers and suppliers, translating technical information.
  • Participating in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process.
  • Selecting and applying materials and processes appropriate to each design element.
  • Ensuring the successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole.
  • Generating and/or revising specifications.

  • Membership of professional engineering institution (CIBSE/IMechE/IET) - preferred but not essential. We will support candidates looking to progress to CEng/IEng or EngTech level
