We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading contractor in the UK water industry, who are looking to appoint a
Mechanical Design Engineer at their Birmingham office. This is a
permanent, office–based position offering a competitive salary and the chance to work on a wide range of clean and wastewater infrastructure projects.
The Role:As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a key part of a multidisciplinary team delivering mechanical design solutions across multiple water and wastewater schemes. This role suits someone who thrives in a technical environment and is confident taking projects from concept through to construction support.
Key Responsibilities:- Producing detailed mechanical designs including layouts, calculations, specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Coordinating with electrical, process, and civil engineers to develop integrated solutions.
- Providing technical support throughout design development, procurement, and construction phases.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and client requirements (e.g. WIMES).
Requirements:- Degree–qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in mechanical design within the water industry (clean or wastewater).
- Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Revit).
- Familiarity with Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications (WIMES).
- Excellent communication and problem–solving skills.
Desirable:- Chartered or working towards Chartership (IMechE or equivalent).
- Site experience or understanding of mechanical installation practices.
- Experience working with UK water utility frameworks.
