Job summary

CIBSE Journal in the West Birmingham area is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer to drive concept-to-manufacture development of innovative mechanical products. You will work in a collaborative team, applying robust design methods, developing prototypes, conducting validation tests and delivering production-ready solutions on time.

You will lead design projects from concept through to production, optimise performance and manufacturability, and maintain

Qualifications

• Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years' experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical engineering or product design background.
• Experience in SolidWorks is preferable – open to other 3D CAD software experience.
• Experience designing products for injection moulding is essential. Other manufacturing methods such as die casting or sheet metal desirable.
• Proven ability to take products through the full design lifecycle.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Exposure to CFD and/or FEA analysis tools would be advantageous.
• Experience with flow control, valves or fluid handling products would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer to join a growing product development team within a well–established UK manufacturing business in West Birmingham. This role offers the chance to play a key part in the design and development of innovative mechanical products, taking projects from initial concept through to production.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will be responsible for developing robust, high–quality solutions that meet customer and market requirements while driving continuous product improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and product design projects from concept through to manufacture.
• The Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer will develop innovative mechanical product designs and bring them to production readiness.
• Apply engineering expertise to optimise product performance, functionality and manufacturability.
• The Mechanical Design Engineer / Product Design Engineer will develop will create and test prototypes to validate product concepts.
• Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and technical assessments to support design decisions.
• Utilise testing, simulation and validation methods to ensure product reliability and performance.
• Collaborate closely with cross–functional teams to deliver successful project outcomes.

Skills & Experience
