ROLE: Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION: Swindon

TERM: Permanent

SALARY: GBP 30,000 - GBP 45,000 per annum, dependent on experience

My client is a manufacturer of specialist products for various sectors, seeking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis in Swindon.

Hands-on or project experience is desirable but not essential for this role.

The Mechanical Design Engineer should ideally possess the following attributes:

  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Sheet Metal/Metalwork
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Strong theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge, including core principles and tight tolerances
  • Ability to work independently and in a small multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to perform mechanical calculations
  • Experience with process machinery or steel/metal materials is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

The role involves:

  • Collaborating within the engineering team with other Design Engineers
  • Creating 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and 2D designs with AutoCAD
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Participating in final assembly of products
  • Producing documentation for designs and project reports/plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Entering parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
  • Reviewing drawings for sign-off
  • Working on varied projects within a small multidisciplinary team
