Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Sunderland | Department: Engineering | Reports to: Engineering Manager

An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and optimisation of innovative, high-performance medical products. Working as part of a dynamic, cross-functional engineering team, you will contribute to the full product lifecycle, from concept generation and design through to verification, production, and continuous improvement.

This hands-on role involves creating technically robust, commercially competitive solutions while ensuring compliance with all relevant industry regulations and standards. You will also support the re-engineering of existing products for quality, performance, and cost efficiency, as well as assist other departments with technical issues and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Producing CAD models and drawings.
  • Managing design documentation.
  • Performing design calculations.
  • Compiling technical files.
  • Leading development projects when required.
  • Working closely with colleagues in production, quality, marketing, and supply chain to ensure seamless product delivery.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (BSc or MSc).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical product design and development, ideally within medical or precision engineering environments.
  • Strong mechanical design skills with knowledge of DFMEA and design for manufacture/service.
  • Experience with pneumatic systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, or medical gas equipment is advantageous.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (preferably Autodesk Inventor) and data management systems such as Vault.
