Mechanical Design Engineer

On behalf of our client, we are seeking several Mechanical Design Engineers to join on an initial 6–month contract. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with other functional teams to develop products that meet customer needs. You will have the opportunity to engage in cutting–edge research of novel mechanical technologies to address future challenges.

Pay:

£40 – £50 per hour via Umbrella

Stevenage

Contract:

Monday–Friday, 37 hours per week, 6 months

IR35 Status:

Inside

Security Clearance:

SC clearance required to start; UK Eyes only project

Responsibilities:

1. Perform Mechanical Design and testing activities for prime and variant products, including piece parts and assemblies.
2. Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve production issues and defects.
3. Support functional and environmental testing and trials.
4. Coordinate with suppliers and purchasing to address technical queries.
5. Plan and report on daily activities to meet project milestones.
6. Clarify and generate requirements, challenging extraneous ones to reduce lead time, UPC, and design complexity.

Essential Skills:

1. Ability to work within a multifunctional engineering team and participate in or lead design reviews.
2. Understanding of other engineering domains.
3. Degree or HND/HNC qualification.
4. Experience with Creo 3D design software.
5. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerance studies, environmental testing, mass property calculations, material selection, FMEA, design for manufacture/assembly, gasket sealing, tooling/fixtures design, structural design, defence standards, review processes, product lifecycles, and industrial validation.
