This is a great opportunity to work on an interesting MOD project, working from our client's office in Plymouth, with occasional site visits in Devonport.

Competitive hourly rate ranging from 50– 75 (depending on experience level).

Key Responsibilities:

–Lead and manage mechanical building services projects delivered by subcontractors for the MOD, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and business standards.

–Act as the technical authority, overseeing design quality, validating documentation, and conducting audits, reviews, and site inspections.

–Define mechanical requirements, contribute to scopes of work, and support tender preparation and evaluations.

–Represent the company in meetings with stakeholders and contractors, responding to technical queries and guiding project delivery.

–Provide technical oversight to junior engineers and maintain accurate project records in line with company standards.

What we are looking for:

–Must have extensive experience (5+ years) as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

–Strong expertise in mechanical systems design (e.g. steam, HVAC, water, gases) with knowledge of regulations (BREEAM, DREAM, Building Regs) and experience in consultancy or contractor environments.

–Familiarity with the full design lifecycle, technical standards, and high–hazard sectors such as nuclear; experience with commissioning and performance evaluation.

–Awareness of sustainable design principles, including energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and passive solutions.

–Proficient in digital tools, with experience leading small teams and managing time, cost, and quality effectively.

–Strong communication, problem–solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.

–Degree–qualified and chartered (or working towards) with CIBSE or IMechE.
