Job summary

ALH Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Peterborough team. You will contribute to cradle-to-grave design for liquid and powder process equipment across UK clients in the food, beverage, bakery, dairy and utility sectors.

Reporting to the Processing Engineering Manager, you will deliver compliant designs, produce drawings, manage BOMs and carry out site surveys. A hands-on, problem-solving engineer with CAD proficiency is ideal.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to explain technical concepts in writing and speech.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Able to innovate and apply existing solutions to problems.
• Understanding of mechanics (cantilever loads, point loads, etc.).
• Awareness of engineering mathematics.
• Experience with Design for Manufacture processes.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Design Engineer - Peterborough - 40/50k

ALH Recruitment are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer position with immediate effect for our client who continue to grow and are based in the Peterborough area.

This is an exciting new role to join the Engineering Design Team as a Design Engineer to support the demands of our clients growing business in liquid and powder process solution equipment. As an engineering solutions supplier to the food, beverage, brewery, bakery, dairy and utility industries throughout the UK, they are providing an opportunity to bring forward your own ideas.

Reporting to the Processing Engineering Manager, you will work on small to major projects within a team of design engineers responsible for delivering cradle-to-grave design deliverables to the liquid & powder process & food industry in the UK. You will be responsible for ensuring your designs conform to all relevant UK standards and align to the high standards of the department.

Role - responsibilities:

• Maintain and amend existing designs.
• Incorporate the principles of hygienic design within all aspects of your work.
• Produce accurate technical drawings and designs for the engineering department, customers, and suppliers.
• Produce and manage BOMs, ensuring all changes are recorded.
• Perform mechanical design and development using SOLIDWORKS and autoCAD with a "Hands on" approach.
• Work within the integrated project team to provide design solutions against requirements, and within budget and timescales.
• Carry out site surveys around the UK where relevant.
• When and where needed attend customer-facing meetings and manage customer relationships.
• Support visits and meetings at UK sites and suppliers when required.
• Liaise with the process team to align P&ID's with 2D and 3D drawings.
• Develop and present project design proposals to the sales team and respective client(s).
• Develop a good working knowledge of the process industry.
• Develop a technical understanding of the relevant standards and regulations which are required to deliver compliant designs.
• Undertake specialist training required to efficiently utilise the tools for the role.

Skills / Experience

• Able to understand and express technical concepts in both written and verbal language.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

• Understanding of mechanics, such as cantilever loads, point loads, etc.
• Awareness of engineering mathematics.
• Good CAD proficiency- SOLIDWORKS/autoCAD (Minimum of 3 years)
• Relevant industry experience.
• Experience of 'Design for Manufacture'.
• Be a creative problem solver with the ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
• Have an analytical and logical mindset with a high attention to detail.
• Team player.
