Teamjobs is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client in Yeovil. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for self-motivated engineers with aerospace industry experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Knowledge of engineering principles related to engines, instruments, controls, robots, and machines is essential. The role requires familiarity with common concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, and the ability to work under supervision to perform job functions.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with potential flexibility for a 4-day workweek.

Pay rate: £35.00-£45.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Focus on REACH obsolescence within the current product range, identifying obsolescence issues, and investigating suitable alternatives based on product specifications.
2. Support development of concept designs, including analysis, with awareness of manufacturing methodologies and cost considerations.
3. Perform detailed design work and manage engineering change processes.
4. Ensure responsibility for all drawings and associated project documentation.
5. Work on complex aerospace engineering projects across various areas.

Skills and Requirements:

• Attention to detail in reviewing existing drawings for REACH obsolescence and preparing investigation reports.
• Ability to produce detailed designs and layouts that meet customer requirements and specifications.
• Responsibility for completing and checking drawing packs and supporting documentation.
• Commitment to meeting project schedules and milestones within a team environment.
• Flexibility and willingness to work beyond usual zones.
• Experience in small component design, design for manufacturing principles, and working with fine tolerances is desirable.
