Job summary

Hunter Selection is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer in Market Harborough to lead the design of heavy-duty equipment from concept to manufacture. You will work on bespoke projects, taking ownership of the full design lifecycle and delivering robust mechanical solutions using SolidWorks and 3D CAD.

Applicants should have 5+ years in mechanical design, strong background in heavy engineering, and experience with welded structures, FEA and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering.
• SolidWorks and 3D CAD experience required.
• Background in heavy engineering, special purpose machinery, material handling equipment.
• Experience with fabricated structures, welded assemblies and sheet metal design.
• Understanding of FEA and structural calculations.

Responsibilities

• Design heavy-duty mechanical systems and structures using SolidWorks.
• Produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings.
• Design hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Perform stress, stability and structural calculations, including FEA.
• Design jigs, fixtures and production tooling.

A well-established manufacturer of specialist heavy-duty equipment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

Working on highly bespoke projects, you'll be involved in the full design lifecycle, developing innovative mechanical solutions. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll take ownership of projects from initial concept through to manufacture.

The Role

• Design heavy‑duty mechanical systems and structures using SolidWorks
• Produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings
• Design hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Perform stress, stability and structural calculations, including FEA
• Design jigs, fixtures and production tooling
• Manage your own projects and liaise closely with manufacturing teams
• Support products through the build and testing phases

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering
• SolidWorks and 3D CAD experience
