Opportunity for Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team of maritime experts.

Job Description

Do you want to be at the forefront of change within the maritime industry? This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to excel their career within Silverstream Technologies.

Reporting To: Lead Structural Engineer

Location: London or Southampton Office including hybrid working

This role is primarily responsible for providing Mechanical Design Engineering support for product development projects including but not limited to the design of the next generation of the Silverstream Air Release Units (ARU). You will also be expected to support in the production of structural drawings for the arrangement and integration of our Air Release Unit (ARU) in Retrofit and Newbuild Projects. You will be designing and detailing structural/mechanical components and assemblies, proving designs using first principle calculations, FEA, as well as working on several research projects.

Experience / Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related subject.
  • Post graduate working experience in a mechanical design engineer role or similar with evidence of technical responsibility for design works executed.
  • A working knowledge of the structural design and design verification process through application of first principles via hand calculations and Finite Element analysis tools.
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD and 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks is essential.
  • A clear and demonstrable understanding of design standards and Classification Society rules relating to the design, construction and modification of machines/ship/engineering structure.
  • Ability to produce and read technical engineering drawings with understanding of weld details and geometric tolerances is essential.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of construction/fabrication practices, processes and standards within the shipbuilding and/or related industries.
  • Competency and working experience in Technical Report Writing is essential.
  • A working knowledge of ship hull design and familiarity with CFD analysis is desirable.
  • A working knowledge of general ship drawings and information, including GA, Tank Plans, Shell Expansion, Trim and Stability Booklet, Model Test and Sea Trial reports is desired.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentational skills.
  • Good analytical skills are essential.
  • Ability to multi–task on a variety of projects to strict time scales.
  • Understands business objectives and can influence stakeholders to meet objectives.
  • Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable.
  • Willing to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.
