Mechanical Design Engineer

Location – Dundee

My client is seeking a skilled mechanical designer with expertise in plastic molding and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be proficient in CAD (ProE/Creo), tolerance analysis, and design for assemblies with PCBs. Experience in leading projects from concept to production, collaborating across disciplines, and working with suppliers is essential. Strong communication skills, attention to quality, documentation, and multitasking abilities are required.

Your responsibilities in the role

• Deep understanding of Mechanical design principles and technologies.
• Ability to interpret documentation and work independently on problems as well as within a team.
• Willingness to work to high standards and communicate effectively.
• Strong knowledge of plastic molding, sheet metal fabrication, tooling, and parts manufacturing.
• Lead mechanical activities with a good understanding of manufacturing and assembly options; review and recommend new technologies.
• Collaborate with engineers from different disciplines to benefit the overall project.
• Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
• Experience in taking projects from basic concepts through to production.
• Proficiency in CAD (ProE/Creo preferred).
• Work with suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Experience in drawing, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
• Stress and tolerance analysis experience.
• Experience designing assemblies containing PCBs and harnesses, including considerations for EMC and safety.
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies.
• Manage BOM cost tracking.
• Report and track project status to meet schedules.
• Prepare documentation such as functional and unit test specifications.
