Job summary

Industrial Connected Talent is assisting a rapidly growing automation business in Irlam to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer. This hands-on role focuses on bespoke machinery, automation equipment and robotic systems, with occasional fitting or assembly work.

You will produce 3D CAD models and detailed drawings, and collaborate with electrical, controls and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and robust.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in automation, machinery or manufacturing.
• Strong SolidWorks experience and practical design skills.
• Comfortable in a small, fast-moving engineering environment.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.

Industrial Connected Talent is supporting a rapidly growing industrial automation business in the search for a Mechanical Design Engineer.

This is a hands‑on design role focused on bespoke machinery, automation equipment and robotic systems. The role would suit someone who is strong in mechanical design but also comfortable supporting the wider engineering team and occasionally assisting with mechanical fitting or assembly work.

Responsibilities for Mechanical Design Engineer

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will produce detailed designs and support the development of bespoke automation machinery from concept through to manufacture. You will work closely with electrical, controls and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, robust and suitable for build.

Requirements for Mechanical Design Engineer

• Minimum 2 years’ experience within automation, machinery or manufacturing
• Good understanding of tolerances, engineering principles and design for manufacture
• Willingness to contribute beyond pure design work when required
• Full, valid UK driving licence

Desirable Experience for Mechanical Design Engineer

• Experience specifying motors, drives or actuators
• Exposure to robotics or automation projects
• Understanding of motion control or integrated machinery systems
