Job summary

Fortis Recruitment Solutions is assisting a leading Engineering company based in High Wycombe to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on a full-time, permanent basis. The role requires 5+ years in mechanical and hydraulic design with strong FEA knowledge and proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

You will manage multiple projects, coordinate with clients and internal teams, and ensure design documentation is prepared for clients and production.

Qualifications

• Associated Degree or minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design.
• Hydraulic design experience is desirable.
• Oil and Gas industry experience is desirable.
• Experience with pressure retaining components.
• Knowledge and understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Experience with ANSYS (desirable).
• Knowledge of British Standards for Engineering Draughting.

Responsibilities

• Lead client-driven projects with support from the Senior Engineer and other team members.
• Translate client requirements into detailed instructions for procurement and production.
• Conceive and develop engineering designs from client ideas in coordination with Sales, Projects and Production.
• Evaluate factors including client requirements, product use, materials, safety, regulations and manufacturability.
• Lead internal design reviews for new designs with guidance from the Senior Engineer.
• Deliver assigned design projects within the required timescales.
• Create design files documenting criteria, solutions, calculations and analyses.
• Check and approve engineering drawings, qualifications and calculations.
• Provide technical client support with assistance from the Senior Engineer.
• Attend and contribute to project meetings as technical lead.
• Respond to issues to best serve the customer.
• Assist in developing internal design guidelines.

Job description

My client, a leading Engineering company based in High Wycombe are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on a full time, permanent basis. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience of mechanical and hydraulic design and a sound knowledge of FEA. As part of the role, the Mechanical Design Engineer will have partial responsibility for the technical execution of multiple projects (Client projects and R&D projects) together with managing the design documentations to Clients and Production.

Main Duties:

• Lead client driven projects with the assistance of the Senior Engineer and the support of other engineers within the team.
• Assist the project management team in converting client s engineering requirements into detailed defined instructions, identifying the key priorities for the procurement and production departments to complete a project.
• Conceive, research, and develop engineering designs from product ideas gathered by liaising with Clients, together with Sales, Projects, and Production departments.
• Evaluate all key factors including client requirements, use of the product, material selection, safety, legal requirements, and design for manufacture.
• Lead internal design reviews for new design with assistance from the Senior Engineer.
• Responsible for assigned design projects and delivering these projects within the required timescale.
• Create Design file for each project to ensure design criteria and design solution is captured on a document. Including any calculations and analysis performed to validate the solution.
• Check/approve engineering documentations (drawings, qualification, calculations, etc)
• Provide technical support to client with help from the Senior Engineer.
• Attend and contribute to associated project meetings as technical lead.
• Responsible for attending meetings/reviews and reacting to any issues to best serve the customer.
• Assist in the development of internal design guidelines.

Experience & Personal Attributes:

• Associated Degree or minimum 5 years of experience mechanical design.
• Hydraulic design experience (desirable)
• Oil and Gas Industry experience. (desirable).
• Experience of working in an Engineer Role and working on multiple projects at the same time.
• Experience of pressure retaining components.
• Fully conversant with Solidworks, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge and understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Experience of ANSYS (desirable).
• Knowledge of British Standards for Engineering Draughting.
• Able to deal proactively with senior discipline representatives in the co–ordination of work.
• Excellent communication skills, the ability to present complex technical results in a clear and concise manner.
• Good organisational skills with ability to manage time effectively between multiple technically demanding projects.
• Flexibility in responding to critical deadlines.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Good writing skills, with the ability to write technical reports and procedures for Clients.
• Good attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills are a must, both written and verbal.
• Efficient, well organised, and able to communicate at all level, Desire to work as a team with a result driven approach.

Hours of work are 07 30 Monday to Thursday and 07 30 on Fridays covering 40 hours a week.

An attractive salary is on offer dependent on your level of experience – up to GBP48k per annum.
