Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services Consultancy

About the Role

A respected building services consultancy based in Fareham is looking to bring on a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a few years’ experience who’s ready to take on more responsibility and grow into a senior role.

You’ll be working on a wide range of projects across sectors including residential, commercial, education, and healthcare—supporting innovative, sustainable mechanical design solutions from concept to handover.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs for HVAC, ventilation, hot & cold-water systems, and plantroom layouts
  • Produce calculations, reports, and specifications in line with UK standards and client requirements
  • Prepare and amend design drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Attend and contribute to design meetings with clients, contractors, and internal teams
  • Assist in site inspections and technical assessments
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to deliver integrated MEP designs
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations, industry best practices, and low-carbon technologies

Candidate Requirements
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  • 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design (consultancy or contractor background)
  • Proficient in design software such as Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, and ideally some Revit exposure
  • Solid understanding of UK building regulations and CIBSE design guidance
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ambition to progress toward Senior Engineer and Chartered status
