Job summary

Mechanical Design Engineer role in Greater London, joining an established engineering business delivering mechanical and electro–mechanical products. You will own design work across concept to production, develop 3D CAD models, BOMs and engineering documentation, and work with cross‑functional teams.

You should have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years of related experience, with strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD) and experience in FEA, tolerance analysis and design

Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for an opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to production?

We re working with an established engineering business that designs and manufactures innovative mechanical and electro–mechanical products. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Design Office.

This is a varied, hands–on role combining mechanical design, product development, prototyping, testing and project management, giving you the opportunity to take ownership of projects and see your designs progress from concept into manufacture.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical and electro–mechanical products whilst working across multiple product development, R&D, continuous improvement and customer–led projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing mechanical and electro–mechanical products from concept through to production.
• Producing detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
• Using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault to develop and manage designs.
• Carrying out engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and FEA to support design decisions.
• Creating and maintaining BOMs, specifications and technical documentation.
• Supporting concept generation, design reviews and technical evaluations.
• Planning and carrying out design verification and validation activities.
• Building, assembling and testing prototypes using workshop equipment and additive manufacturing technologies.
• Analysing test results and implementing design improvements.
• Managing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and associated design change processes.
• Managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously, including project plans, schedules, risks and deliverables.
• Working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Sales, suppliers and customers.
• Providing technical support and helping resolve manufacturing and product issues.
• Supporting root–cause investigations, continuous improvement and cost–reduction initiatives.
• Ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, cost–effective and suitable for production.

What We're Looking For

We re looking for a degree–qualified Mechanical Design Engineer with 3 5 years experience gained within a manufacturing, engineering or product development environment.

You ll ideally have:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong experience in mechanical product design and development.
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD e.g Solidworks and Inventor
• Experience with FEA, engineering calculations and tolerance analysis.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DFM).
• Experience managing ECRs and engineering change processes.
• Experience producing technical drawings, specifications, BOMs and engineering documentation.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Experience with project scheduling, risk management and progress reporting.
• Experience with prototype assembly, testing and evaluation.
• Competence using workshop equipment and 3D printing technologies.
• Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of cost, quality and delivery requirements.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
• Full authorisation to work in the UK.
