Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 DOE

Orion is working with an innovative manufacturing company based in Gloucester. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly team and work in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will primarily be involved in the mechanical design of vehicles, with additional responsibilities in electrical design. The role includes using AutoCAD to produce technical drawings and schematics for new designs and processes. The candidate will also participate in testing equipment and quality assurance.

Responsibilities:

• Project management from inception to completion
• Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings
• Electrical and pneumatic design
• Customer liaison
• Design modifications and from customer specifications
• Layout design
• Design of sensor brackets and equipment mounting
• Design and detailing of aircraft refuelling vehicles and equipment
• Creating engineering proposals
• Generating tender documents based on customer specifications
• Component selection, BOMs, and costings
• Communicating preliminary designs to Sales & Design teams
• Preparing 3D CAD data and 2D manufacturing drawings using Inventor & AutoCAD
• Supervising shop floor personnel

Required Experience:

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software
• Experience with 3D CAD (AutoCAD Inventor and Volt)
• Experience with 2D design
• Customer liaison experience
• HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Willingness to learn and develop skills
• Effective communication and team collaboration skills
• Familiarity with AutoCAD

Package:

• Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 DOE
