Job description

Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer on a 12-month contract based in Glasgow.

Role Summary

We apply the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world's energy infrastructure.

Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive, and control technologies, we serve specialized sectors such as marine, industry, energy, and related services.

We are seeking a contract mechanical engineer to work in the Naval equipment design team within our systems engineering organization in Rugby.

You will be responsible for developing our next generation of electrical drives and distribution equipment for Naval and Marine applications.

You will be involved at all stages of the product development process, from concept to manufacturing, collaborating with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and the power systems and power electronics teams to meet customer requirements.

Due to security restrictions on this role, applications will only be accepted from UK Nationals who hold or are eligible for SC security clearance.

Requirements
  1. A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or relevant experience in a mechanical design engineering environment.
  2. Significant engineering experience with good technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheet metal design, DFMA, and material selection.
  3. A strong track record in product development, ideally gained in the industrial or electrical equipment sectors.
  4. The ability to interpret electrical schematics and use them to develop suitable mechanical designs.
  5. Proficiency in PTC Creo or similar 3D CAD software for creating 3D part and assembly models and 2D drawings.
  6. Good engineering, communication, and organizational skills.
  7. You must be a sole UK National and hold or be eligible for UK security clearance to SC level.
Desirable
  1. Experience in the design of power electronics equipment and fluid handling systems.
  2. Experience with Siemens Team Center PLM software for BoM creation and management.
  3. Previous experience with UK Naval engineering projects.
