Job summary

Dover Precision Components is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design Inpro/Seal products using SolidWorks, creating 3D models and 2D drawings with precise tolerancing. You will work with sales, distributors and customers to interpret requirements and deliver designs that meet specs.

You will also check assemblies, BOMs, and apply design-for-manufacturability improvements while developing company-wide design standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in engineered product environments with machining and 3D CAD design.
• Experience with rotating equipment (turbines, pumps, compressors, etc.).
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
• Ability to apply continuous improvement to existing processes.

Job description

Working as a Mechanical Design Engineer for Dover Precision Components, you will be responsible for the design of our Inpro/Seal product line, through the use of CAD (SolidWorks). You will be responsible for 3D and 2D drawings and tolerancing according to design standards, working work with the sales team, distributors and customers to understand and interpret design requirements and create designs that meet those requirements.

You will also perform checking duties related to assembly and component drawings, part structures (BOM’s) and item specific information for accuracy of design intent and application specification information. Participating in and contributing to process improvement and design for manufacturability (DFM) activities as well as in the development and implementation of company-wide design standards and practices that reflect industry best practices and improved efficiency.

What You Will Bring

• HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Work experience in an engineered product environment covering machining and 3D CAD product design (SolidWorks preferred)
• Experience with rotating equipment or ccompnents thereof, such as turbines, pumps, compressors, generators, motors or gearboxes
• Strong understanding of Engineering Principles and Design Practices
• Demonstrated ability to apply continuous improvement techniques to existing processes and procedures
• Strong computer skills and attention to detail including Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP Systems (Syteline), and CAD Software (SolidWorks)
• Familiarity with the impact of the manufacturing process on the key factors that control form, fit and function.

What You Will Do

• Design bearing isolators and other Inpro-Seal products to fulfill customer requirements including on-time delivery
• Analyse information received from customers and utilize CAD software (SolidWorks) to create 3D designs
• Create and complete 2D drawings for quoting purposes and for manufacturing
• Collaborate with customers, distributors and manufacturing personnel to clarify design requirements and create solutions through the design process
• Review layout drawings, sketches and design data of parts to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, supporting manufacturing personnel with design intent
• Collaborate with the manufacturing team to outline the sequence of operations required to machine parts efficiently
• Maintain the ability to collaborate, multitask and prioritise project timelines
• Read, analyse and interpret technical procedures
• Write business correspondence, effectively present information and respond to questions from operators, managers and clients
