Cathedral Appointments | B Corp™ is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Exeter team. You will design and develop new products from concept to production, optimise existing designs for manufacturability, and deliver CAD models and drawings with tolerance analysis.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience taking concepts from prototype to volume manufacture.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes (folding/welding) is desirable.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Proven ability to develop manufacturable products in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new products from concept through to detailed drawings for manufacture.
  • Optimise existing products to improve manufacturability, efficiency and cost while maintaining quality.
  • Produce production-ready CAD models and technical drawings with tolerance analyses and DFMEA as part of the design process.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Purchasing and Development teams to ensure successful delivery of projects.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team based in Exeter. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the design, development and optimisation of innovative products, taking concepts through to production-ready solutions. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and delivered to the highest quality standards while supporting new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
  • Design and develop new products from concept through to detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
  • Optimise existing products to improve manufacturability, efficiency and cost while maintaining quality.
  • Produce production-ready CAD models and technical drawings, carrying out tolerance analysis and DFMEA throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Purchasing and Development teams to ensure successful delivery of new product projects.
Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience within a mechanical design environment.
  • Proven experience of product development from prototype through to volume manufacture.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes, including folding and welding, with Design for Manufacture expertise is desirable.
  • Experience using Solid Edge or a comparable 3D CAD package, together with GD&T, DFMEA and tolerance stack-up analysis.
