Overview

Job title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Type: Contract
IR35 Status: Inside IR35 – PAYE
Start date: ASAP
Duration: 6 – 12 Months
Pay rate: Up to 55 p/h – PAYE
Location: Aldermaston
Hybrid/Remote Working: 3–4 days on–site per week
Hours of work: Up to 40 Hours Per Week

Responsibilities
  • Created detailed designs and specifications for mechanical systems using CAD software for nuclear applications.
  • Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards.
  • Conduct technical research to inform design and engineering methods, focusing on nuclear–specific requirements.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring adherence to nuclear industry regulations.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence and quality, particularly in the context of nuclear safety.
  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards.
  • Perform computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine designs, focusing on nuclear–specific scenarios.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices within the nuclear industry.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Proficient with CAD software
  • Strong analytical and problem–solving skills
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiar with Nuclear industry standards and regulations
  • Experience with FEA
Security Clearance

UK National Security Vetting Status – Candidates must already have active UKSV SC or DV Clearance.
