Mechanical Design Engineer – Chelmsford – Manufacturing – Up to 50,000

About the Role
A growing and innovative engineering company is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This is a key role that supports product development, manufacturing, training, and quality compliance through the creation of high–quality CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain precise 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks
  • Translate specifications and design concepts into technical drawings for manufacturing
  • Modify and revise existing models and drawings to support ongoing improvements
  • Collaborate with CNC Machining, Compliance, and Quality teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Generate documentation to support R&D, manufacturing, and certification processes
  • Conduct stress analysis and material behavior reports where required
  • Develop visual assets for training, support, and promotional materials
  • Participate in internal audits to maintain and improve CAD data quality

Candidate Profile
We're looking for a conscientious, proactive Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives both independently and within a cooperative technical team. The ideal candidate will bring experience, creativity, and a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and CAD design.

Essential Requirements

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks 2020 or later
  • Experience with 3D modelling and 2D drafting for manufacturing
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality standards
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail and problem–solving ability

Desirable Skills

  • Accreditation in SolidWorks
  • Experience with CNC Machining and 3D Printing
  • Familiarity with quality systems and auditing
  • Understanding of sustainable design practices
