Qualifications

Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Staplehurst, Kent
Salary: Competitive, DOE
Hours: Monday Friday
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking for your next challenge? Join a family–run, industry–leading manufacturer at an exciting stage of growth. Our client is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the expansion of their Design & Development team at their state–of–the–art facility in Staplehurst, Kent.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong post–qualification experience who is looking to grow within a small, collaborative team led by a forward–thinking R&D manager.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Manage end–to–end mechanical design projects, collaborating across disciplines including electronics and physics
  • Design bespoke magnetic shielding solutions using 3D CAD software
  • Liaise with clients and the sales team to gather technical requirements
  • Create detailed 2D/3D drawings, engineering documentation, BOMs, and SOPs
  • Generate technical documentation, reports, and internal/external presentations
  • Support manufacturing and production with accurate routings and work orders
  • Contribute to quotations with the estimating team and manage customer expectations

What We re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years post–graduate industrial experience
  • Full lifecycle experience in concept design through to manufacturing
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T standards
  • Experienced in tolerance analysis and stack–ups
  • Proficient communicator and collaborator across teams
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Sage, Oracle, Progress Plus)
  • Strong project management and IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Desirable:

  • Experience in sheet metal and precision machining
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Vault and FEA tools
  • Experience in ISO 9001 environments
  • Familiarity with polymers, composites, and lean methodologies (5S, Six Sigma)
  • Background in continuous improvement processes
