Key experience:

  • Design Experience in a safety critical environment/industry (e.g. Defence, aerospace, nuclear, automotive, maritime, or similar).
  • 3D CAD modelling.
  • Material and process selection.
  • Design for manufacture and assembly.
  • GD&T.
  • Problem solving using 8D techniques and impact analysis.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with any of the following would be an advantage: FEA using hand calculations and software and/or Design Failure Modes and Analysis, NX 12 & Teamcenter 11, ASME Y14.5 drawing standard, Multibody dynamics modelling and motion simulation.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Generating design concepts and developing and supporting existing designs and products, in line with regulatory and customer requirements and in line with the engineering specification, including associated international civil and military aviation and defence standards as well as MBA requirements.
  • Production of commercially viable product definition information (PDI) including 3D models, detail, and assembly engineering drawings.
  • Effective workload planning.
  • Carrying out all necessary performance and structural calculations via hand calculations and other software tools such as spreadsheets and FEA to support design development.
  • Producing top level design layouts.
