We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a respected manufacturer of special purpose machinery, for an experienced Design Engineer to join their team in Crawley, West Sussex.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanical design professional to contribute to innovative projects within a globally operating organization. The role is on-site with long-term stability and progression potential.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will handle the full mechanical design cycle—from concept to integration—using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Mechanical. Your work will support the development of custom solutions for international clients.

This role involves working closely with production and testing teams, requiring a practical mindset and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design of special purpose machinery using 2D and 3D CAD software
• Create and maintain technical drawings, BOMs, and documentation
• Collaborate with assembly and testing teams to ensure design feasibility
• Provide practical, cost-effective design solutions
• Communicate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to clarify requirements and support installation
• Travel occasionally within the UK and overseas for client site visits
• Support internal departments and external customers technically
• Maintain design records and manage issues within the MRP system
• Qualifications: BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering (Product Design degrees not suitable)
• Minimum 8 years of industrial mechanical design experience
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Mechanical
• Experience designing machinery such as conveyors, packaging, or similar systems
• Ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines
• Fluent English skills (spoken and written)
• Willingness to travel worldwide
• UK driving license (manual or automatic)
• Experience with Autodesk Vault
• Exposure to sheet metal and special-purpose machinery design
• Interest in mechanical hobbies
