Job Role

As a Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, modelling, and drawing bespoke products and systems. You will ensure a right-first-time approach within short lead times and update existing solutions to maintain a consistent library of parts that adhere to the latest safety standards and design guidelines. You will also provide wider teams with the relevant information and documentation.

Key Responsibilities for the Mechanical Design Engineer Role:

  • 3D Modelling and 2D Drawing:Use Inventor to produce 3D models for components and assemblies, and 2D drawings for laser cutting, welding, and assembling a wide range of parts and products.
  • Technical Documentation:Prepare product manuals with technical details, engineering documentation such as spares lists and test reports.
  • Engineering Calculations:Perform engineering calculations and Finite Element Analysis to ensure designs are compliant with ISO and H&S standards.
  • Product Development:Develop new products through research, testing, and validation.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with production, purchasing, and other teams to ensure designs are fit for purpose and cost-effective.
  • Customer Interaction:Attend customer sites when required to ensure design specifications are met.

Qualifications and Skills needed for the Mechanical Design Engineer Role:

  • Essential:
    • Experience in designing machines, sheet-metal, and machined parts.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and Inventor or similar software.
    • Ability to perform relevant engineering calculations.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build internal relationships quickly.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Flexibility and a proactive, can-do attitude.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in a similar environment.
    • Familiarity with Risk Analysis and Machinery Directives.
    • Full driving license.
