Job summary

Key Appointments in West Yorkshire is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead projects from concept through prototyping, testing and final delivery.

You will produce detailed 3D CAD designs, drawings and documentation, apply DFMA principles, manage BOMs and collaborate with suppliers and customers to deliver innovative thermal management solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Onshape or similar).
• 3+ years post-graduation in mechanical design.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
• Knowledge of engineering drawings and standards.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate briefs into clear engineering requirements.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD designs and technical drawings.
• Apply design-for-manufacture principles to develop buildable solutions.
• Manage bills of materials, engineering changes and part releases.
• Plan and support prototype builds using a range of manufacturing methods.
• Design and conduct test programmes, analyse results and implement improvements.
• Identify root causes of technical issues and drive continuous product development.
• Manage projects from concept through to delivery, communicating progress and risks.
• Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, testing facilities and customers.
• Present technical information, design reviews and project updates to stakeholders.

We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering business developing innovative thermal management systems.

Working as part of a small, highly skilled team, you'll take ownership of projects from initial concept through to prototyping, testing and final delivery.

The Role

Working closely with the Head of Engineering, responsibilities will include:

About You

We're interested in engineers who enjoy tackling challenging problems and working independently to find practical solutions.

You’ll have:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Onshape or similar
• 3+ years experience post graduation and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
• Hands-on experience of prototyping, product development and testing
• Knowledge of engineering drawings, documentation and design standards
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to engineering challenges
• The confidence to work from broad briefs and make informed engineering decisions
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• A proactive mindset and genuine desire to learn and develop
