Job description
Overview

Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: London (with Remote Working available)

Salary: £60,000 + Package

Got a basic grounding in mechanical design and want to be mentored by some of the best in the low-carbon MEP space? Want to work on real-world projects that are cutting carbon in hospitals, schools, and public buildings across the UK? Let's talk. We're working with a fast-growing, forward-thinking renewables contractor (circa £10M turnover) delivering high-impact decarbonization schemes across government frameworks. Typical projects range from £2M-£5M and involve replacing old boiler systems and MEP infrastructure with cleaner, more energy-efficient alternatives — including air source heat pumps, low-temperature heating systems, and upgraded mechanical plant. They’re now looking for an Intermediate or Trainee Mechanical Design Engineer to support their in-house design team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career who wants hands-on project exposure and structured progression in a business that's scaling rapidly and invests heavily in its people.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the mechanical design team on low-carbon retrofit projects
  • Assisting with drawings, schematics, and basic calculations
  • Helping to carry out site surveys and gather existing installation data
  • Learning to use design tools such as Hevacomp, IES, and AutoCAD
  • Working with senior engineers to ensure designs meet client and project requirements
  • Coordinating with internal electrical teams and project managers
  • Getting involved in client meetings and technical reviews as experience grows
Ideal candidate
  • Has a basic understanding of mechanical systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing)
  • Some experience using AutoCAD or similar design software
  • Either holds or is working towards an HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • A strong interest in sustainability and low-carbon technologies
  • Organised, enthusiastic, and keen to learn from experienced engineers
  • Any experience in building services or M&E design is a bonus — but not essential
What’s on offer
  • Competitive starting salary with regular reviews as you progress
  • Full support and mentoring from experienced design leads
  • Friendly and supportive team culture
  • 20 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements between home and site locations
