We’re Hiring: Mechanical Engineer

Are you ready to take your engineering career to the next level with one of the UK’s leading bespoke large optics manufacturers? At Glyndwr Innovations Ltd (GIL), innovation, precision, and a passion for success are at the heart of everything we do. We’re on an exciting growth journey, and we’re looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our dynamic team!

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wrexham University, GIL, based at the OpTIC Centre in St Asaph, specializes in delivering high-specification, large-aperture optical systems and (optical components and mounts, etc) components. This is your opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment where your skills will shine. We are currently creating crucial optical components for the European Southern Observatory World’s Largest Telescope (ELT) in Chile.

Do you thrive on solving mechanical engineering problems? In this role, you’ll work with the design engineering team to design validation and verification of mechanical components.. You will also have the opportunity to be developed as team members and contribute to strategic planning for future projects.

What You’ll Do
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be a member of the engineering team and optimechanical team, working directly with fellow engineer and supporting the Senior Design Engineer. Your key responsibilities include:
- Working to brief to develop initial mechanical designs.
- Contributing to documentation for design review meetings and supporting the design decisions.
- Work with senior design engineer manufacturing data packs, including drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
- Verify and validate your designs using FEA and dynamic simulation.
- Contribute to the design engineering team and production engineering team.

What We’re Looking For
We value technical expertise, but we also believe in the power of great communication and teamwork. Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:
- Good communication skills, including report writing.
- Digital Literacy
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, including internationally, to support customer projects and attend professional events.
- Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential

Essential Qualifications/Experience in:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Design engineering experience of verifying and validating mechanical components.
- Experience using industry-standard CAD tools such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Experience in self-managing own time on tasks defined by a brief.
