Job Overview
A leading defence engineering company is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their high-performing team in Staffordshire.Working on mission-critical systems for use in harsh maritime environments, this is an opportunity to contribute to some of the most advanced defence and naval engineering projects in the UK.
This role is ideal for engineers who are confident designing complex enclosures and assemblies and who thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Lead and support design activities across product lifecycles - from concept to delivery.
  • Ensure designs meet demanding performance, environmental, and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to structured design reviews and gated development phases.
  • Liaise with electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams for integrated design solutions.
  • Offer engineering insight into future product development and innovation initiatives.


Requirements
Essential:

  • Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong CAD skills (preferably Autodesk Inventor or equivalent).
  • Solid grasp of enclosure manufacturing techniques (fabrication, castings, welds, coatings).
  • Knowledge of material properties, mechanical stress, and durability standards.
  • Experience working to shock, thermal, and EMC requirements.
  • Exposure to formal design processes and reviews.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-based, problem-solving attitude.

Desirable:

  • Background in electromechanical systems, rotating machinery, or systems integration.
  • Experience with engineering projects in regulated or defence sectors.
