Job description

My Client is recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Water Sector.


Under the direction of the Engineering Manager or other Engineers to be:


Responsible for the output of detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models of complex design and detailed manufacturing drawings for Company products and associated products to agreed timelines. To provide mechanical design support to sales/proposals, manufacturing, vendors or customers. Actively support an ongoing continuous improvement and safety culture.


Delivery:
  1. Using Inventor and Autocad CAD software to prepare, create and modify designs from information supplied to agreed timelines.
  2. Interpret the customer's technical requirements and become familiar with contract specifications to ensure correct interpretation in the detailed engineering documentation, this includes discussing the brief with internal and external engineers as required by complexity and client needs.
  3. Determine dimensions/specification and create complex drawings for effective manufacturing, including compiling materials and specification sheets.
  4. Able to understand and develop a P&ID and other process documentation to enable an effective design that meets the project requirements.
  5. Select equipment; including but not limited to; valves, instruments and process equipment. Compilation of specification sheets for the selected equipment.
  6. Utilise or create and maintain standard parts within the CAD environment in accordance with agreed Company practice. Working with a global team to standardise and develop internal processes.
  7. Provide technical assistance during the assembly and installation phases.
  8. Assist in resolving customer problems and liaise with the customers with respect to design issues. Customers may be internal or external.
  9. Manage the priorities of workload tasks for the mechanical design aspects of the project.
  10. Comply with the Company Quality Assurance System - BSEN:ISO 9001:2000.
  11. Eliminate hazards and mitigate risks in all WT product and system design work as per the Hazardous Area Equipment Regulations and Low Voltage Directive.
  12. Maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of various water treatment processes, plant and equipment types and associated suppliers that may be associated to, or influence the design of Company products or systems.
  13. Creation of engineering bill on materials to facilitate the purchasing of assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  14. Creation and facilitation of engineering/design change notices.

Experience and Qualifications:
  1. An engineering qualification at HND or Degree level or similar/equivalent, this should be in a mechanical discipline.
  2. High level of experience with Inventor 3D computer-aided design tools to create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
  3. High level of experience with Autocad 2D computer-aided design tools to create schematics and maintain legacy drawings.
  4. A sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing/production methods and processes.
  5. Experience of ERP system, example SAP - Desirable.
  6. Understanding of P&IDs and process/piping equipment designs.
  7. Experience in the Water sector or similar process-related industries.
