Job summary

Morgan McKinley (South West) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Buckinghamshire to lead the mechanical design of powertrain systems and components across R&D and customer programs.

You will create 3D parametric models and manufacturing drawings, interpret FEA results, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to drive DFx/DFM while maintaining high design standards. Strong hands-on experience in mechanical, thermal, or fluid components is essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering (BEng/BSc) required.
• Strong background in first principles engineering and 3D parametric CAD.
• Experience interpreting FEA results and applying DFMA principles.

Responsibilities

• Design innovative 3D parametric models and manufacturing drawings for mechanical, thermal, and fluid systems.
• Apply first-principles calculations and interpret FEA results to validate and optimise designs.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and suppliers to drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) and uphold high standards.
• Assist with DFMEAs, root-cause investigations, and cost/complexity reduction efforts.

What You'll Do

• Design innovative 3D parametric models and manufacturing drawings for mechanical, thermal, and fluid systems.
• Apply first-principles engineering calculations and interpret FEA results to validate and optimise your designs.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and suppliers to drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) and ensure high standards.
• Assist with DFMEAs, root-cause investigations into mechanical failures, and continuous cost/complexity reduction.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering (BEng/BSc essential).
• Technical Skills: Strong background in 1st principles engineering, 3D parametric CAD, and FEA interpretation.
• Core Experience: Hands-on experience designing mechanical, thermal, or fluid components.
• Desirable Extras: Experience with CATIA V5/V6, electric motors/inverters, mechatronics, or GD&T (BS8888/ASME Y14.5).
• Requirements: Full UK driving license with flexibility for local site travel
