Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection LTD is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Bedford. You will work on R&D projects from concept through to completion, blending design with hands-on participation on the shop floor and with production testing.

You will design and re-engineer machinery, manage BOMs and work across production and sales teams to deliver innovative, low-volume projects. Previous experience with DfMA and 3D modeling is essential.

• SolidWorks as primary 3D modeling package and willingness to learn.
• Worked closely with production and test (DfMA).
• BOMs and materials selection including stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel.

You’re a Mechanical Engineer first and a Design Engineer second. As our new Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll work on R&D projects from concept through to completion, not just in the design office but hands-on with production and machinery testing. You don’t want to just sit in front of a computer; you want to broaden your horizons in a smaller business, where you will make a real difference. Based in Bedford, we develop special purpose machinery for a variety of industry sectors.

BASIC SALARY: up to £46,000 dependent on your relevant experience

JOB DESCRIPTION: Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer - Machinery, Industrial, R&D

Reporting to our Engineering Manager, as a Mechanical Design Engineer you’ll be involved with a variety of existing projects from the get-go. Our projects range from existing machinery modifications through to blank page NPD / innovation. Largely low volume.

Rather than being confined to a design office, you’ll be encouraged to be shop floor and customer-facing, building on your project experience and working closely with the team on the shop floor in production.

You’ll need the ability to juggle several projects (maybe 2-3) at different stages, which will challenge you as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Innovation and quality are at the core of what we do here.

YOUR BACKGROUND: Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer - Machinery, Industrial, R&D

You’ll be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, educated to likely have an HND or B.ENG in Mechanical Engineering.

You will also have experience of some or all the following:

• Working on design projects from concept through to completion
• Competent using SolidWorks as your primary 3D modeling package or similar and willing to learn
• Worked closely with production and test (DfMA)
• BOM’s, materials selection to include stainless steel, aluminum and mild steel
