Mechanical Design Engineer

Details: Permanent, £35k to £42k per annum DOE, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based in Barnsley.

I am seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering company in Barnsley. Your role will involve designing and developing new and existing products, collaborating closely with the manufacturing team, and supporting other business areas as needed.

Daily responsibilities include:

1. Producing concept design ideas
2. Creating detailed technical drawings and 3D CAD models
3. Analyzing customer requirements to generate accurate parts and components lists
4. Reviewing drawings and preparing documentation
5. Reverse engineering products as required
6. Communicating with team members across departments including Production and Sheet Metal
7. Following all health and safety protocols

Qualifications and skills:

• A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, HNC, or apprenticeship training with proven industry experience
• Proficiency in SolidWorks is essential
• Knowledge of Hypermill CAD/CAM software is advantageous
• Experience producing engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical files
• Automotive industry experience is a plus but not essential
• Ability to present designs effectively to customers
• Experience in preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Creative problem-solving skills

Working hours are 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. The company observes holidays during the first week of May, two weeks in August, a week at Christmas, and Bank Holidays.
