Job description

Are you an experienced or recently qualified engineer looking for an opportunity as a Mechanical Design Applications Engineer? Are you seeking a new challenge within an established, successful manufacturing business?

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and developing fully automated systems. They will collaborate closely with customers to establish project requirements and will be an integral part of the automation team, providing comprehensive solutions aligned with customer needs.

As a Mechanical Design Applications Engineer, the role is customer-focused, taking designs from concept through to production drawings. The candidate will support specific projects to ensure timelines and budgets are met and will demonstrate a flexible, hands-on approach, adapting to changes as necessary.

The Successful Candidate

Should have completed a recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or similar discipline, ideally with a minimum of HNC Level. Demonstrable experience in a similar role would be advantageous.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in 3D design tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Proven experience in designing complex automated systems.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An understanding of machine mechanisms would be beneficial.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good knowledge of physics and mathematics.
  • Practical engineering skills.
  • Understanding of the design process, development stages, and project lifecycles.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows.

Responsibilities

  • Design automated systems, including creating 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Provide technical design support and customer assistance via telephone and digital meetings.
  • Collaborate with in-house technical teams to establish optimal solutions.
  • Resolve design issues and develop new solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Validate applications, prepare cost estimates and quotations.
  • Work with external partners and suppliers.
  • Assist in developing new products aligned with company objectives.
  • Create project documentation and technical files.
  • Maintain existing product design records and drawings.
  • Working hours: 08.00 – 17.00 Monday to Thursday, 08.00 – 14.30 Friday. Overtime may be required.
