Mechanical Craftsperson

Great Western Hospital, Wiltshire

Full Time - 37.5 hours per week.

Shift patterns vary for an 8-hour period and are flexible.

Salary £26,000 - £34,000 depending on experience plus Serco benefits. On call generous allowance plus Serco benefits. AP Duty holder payments.

Serco is recruiting for a Mechanical Craftsperson to join the team at Great Western Hospital. The role involves providing safe and efficient maintenance of mechanical services and equipment within the hospital, as directed by Estates Supervisors and Management.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, and maintenance of various services across the hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
  2. Perform Planned Preventive Maintenance on a wide range of equipment.
  3. Adhere to all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations, and Best Practice Guidelines.
  4. Proactively develop and review Health & Safety systems, work instructions, and practices.
  5. Work safely and responsibly, prioritizing safety for yourself and others.
  6. Attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
  7. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  8. Be flexible to attend work or work beyond expected hours in exceptional circumstances.
  9. Report unrepaired faults, defects, or spare part requirements to Supervisors or Managers.
  10. Attend on-site and off-site training as required.
  11. Optional Authorized Person Duties, including but not limited to Pressure systems, Legionella, Ventilation, Medical Gas (training provided), with additional pay.
  12. Participate in an on-call rota, with shift and weekend work, with additional pay.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
  • Completion of a recognized Mechanical Apprenticeship or relevant structured training program.
  • Level 2 NVQ and Level 2 National/Diploma Certificate.
  • Experience in mechanical services, plumbing, and maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Availability for shift, on-call, and weekend rota.
Desirable:
  • Mechanical to Electrical Conversion.
  • L8 Training.
  • HTM 02 Medical Gas CP Training.
  • HTM 03 Ventilation CP Training.
  • HTM 04 Water Hygiene CP Training.
Additional Role Features:
  • Authorized Person Duties paid at £1000 per role per annum, up to 3 duties, total maximum £2,500 per annum in addition to salary.
  • Standby allowance when on call (TBA).
  • Weekend uplifts with additional rest days.
  • On-the-job training provided.
