Job description
Overview

At Skanska Building Services, we deliver trusted, high-quality facilities management to some of the UK's most critical sectors. We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Manager (Mechanical/Plumbing bias) to lead lifecycle and capital works on a prestigious Ministry of Defence (MoD) site in Westminster. This is a full-time, site-based role on a long-term PFI contract where Skanska provides Hard FM services.

Responsibilities
  • As the Mechanical Construction Manager, oversee a wide range of mechanical small works—including pipework, ductwork, public health, and BMS installations—on a secure MoD facility.
  • Manage the replacement and refurbishment of existing systems and spaces within the main building (not new build).
  • Coordinate trade contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, to specification, on time, and to a high quality standard.
  • Act as a key liaison between stakeholders including the Client, Designers, Consultants, Trade Contractors, and Operations Teams.
  • Uphold Skanska's "Our Way of Working" standards, ensuring Health, Safety, and Welfare procedures are consistently implemented, including site inductions, toolbox talks, pre-task briefings, and inspections.
  • Ensure all installations are completed in line with contract scope, technical drawings, building regulations, JSPs, and company QA procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections to monitor the quality and workmanship of installations.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience in a plumbing-biased construction role, ideally within Building Services or FM capital works.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety, ideally holding SMSTS or equivalent.
  • CSCS card required.
  • Eligibility to obtain DV (Developed Vetting) Security Clearance – applicants must be UK residents and have resided in the UK for the past 10 years due to the security requirements of the site.
  • This role requires a minimum level of security clearance and may also require a higher level of National Security Vetting. You should be aware that certain levels of clearance or specific projects and/or sites have UK requirements; and any dual or multiple must be declared.

Any persons who do not fulfil these requirements may be unable to obtain the required level of clearance and would not be eligible to undertake this role.
