Job Description

Client: An innovative, ambitious, and rapidly expanding technical asset management consultancy specializing in making existing buildings sustainable. They assist landlords and property managers in risk mapping, planning, and transitioning portfolios to net-zero carbon efficiently. Their approach combines building services engineering with dynamic simulation modelling, energy engineering, and bespoke data analysis software.

Their portfolio includes managing over 1 million m2 of predominantly commercial real estate assets, with a team of over 20 staff. While their head office is in the West Midlands, many team members work remotely and travel across the UK to visit buildings, with visits to the head office including an overnight stay approximately every two months.

Role

They seek to appoint a mechanically biased Building Services Design Engineer to support their growth and provide comprehensive services for building owners.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize efficient design solutions considering ESG requirements and client goals.
  • Assist in delivering M&E services refurbishment and new installation projects, adhering to programmes, budgets, and specifications, including commissioning and post-occupancy evaluations.
  • Prepare presentations and clear reports highlighting design implications.
  • Promote energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
  • Coordinate project works with architects, engineers, contractors, building managers, tenants, and stakeholders.
  • Manage external consultants and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain project management systems and procedures.
  • Create Mechanical & Electrical designs and drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Design mechanical and electrical distribution circuits.
  • Test systems and modify plans as necessary.
  • Monitor installation, witness testing, and specify maintenance needs.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Negotiate contracts with clients.

Essential Skills

  • Engineering degree with at least 3 years of experience, or a non-cognate graduate with 3-5 years of experience and recognized engineering accreditations (e.g., CIBSE LCC/LCEA).
  • Membership of CIBSE, IMechE, or IET.
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD M&E.
  • Understanding of UK construction contracts and processes.
  • Commitment to engineering excellence and sustainability in design.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering and/or public health services.
  • Understanding of BIM processes including REVIT, COBIE, and IES dynamic simulation modeling.
