A recruitment agency is seeking a Mechanical Assistant to support experienced Mechanical Fitters across clean and dirty water projects in the UK and Ireland. Mechanical Assistant / Assistant Fitter / Mechanical Labourer
Location: Ideally based near Heywood, but flexible for candidates from Bury, Oldham, Cannock, Rotherham, Keighley and surrounding areas
Pay: Up to GBP13.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week + Overtime at time and a half
Earnings Potential: Up to GBP40,000 per year including overtime and expenses
We re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Assistant to support experienced Mechanical Fitters across clean and dirty water projects throughout the UK and Ireland. This is a great opportunity for someone practical, motivated, and interested in engineering to get into the industry and grow long-term.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Mechanical Fitters on-site with installation, maintenance, and servicing of mechanical equipment (primarily screw pumps)
Use basic hand and power tools to support mechanical tasks
Work across clean and dirty water sites (must be comfortable in less-than-clean environments)
Regularly travel and work away on client sites (hotels and expenses covered)
Follow instructions, ask questions, and support the fitter as needed
What s on Offer:
Up to GBP13.00/hour depending on experience
Overtime paid at time and a half
Weekly expenses covered up to GBP120 (reimbursed the following week)
All hotels pre-booked and paid for when working away
Company van provided if not within commutable distance of team/fitter
On-the-job training with the opportunity to attend college after 12 months
Long-term progression into senior roles (e.g., Senior Fitter or Supervisor)
