Job summary

MARS Recruitment is assisting a leading instrument manufacturer in Abingdon to find an experienced Mechanical Assembly Technician. You will read engineering drawings, weld, fabricate and solder parts to build highly complex instrumentation.

The role involves assembly to drawing specifications, leak testing with helium, occasional use of manual lathe and mill, and ongoing tooling improvements to boost efficiency. Applicants should have mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience reading engineering drawings and assembling complex instrumentation.
• Mechanical apprenticeship or qualification and prior assembly work.
• Ability to weld, solder and fabricate to build precision components.

Responsibilities

• Weld and solder parts to produce assemblies per drawings.
• Assemble products in line with engineering drawings.
• Leak test systems using helium and perform basic machining as needed.
• Identify tooling and equipment needs to improve assembly efficiency.
• Work a standard day shift with overtime as required.

Mechanical Assembly Technician Abingdon £35,000pa - £45,000pa plus overtime & benefits:

A leading specialist manufacturer of superconducting scientific instrumentation is looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Assembly Technician to join their small specialist team. This Mechanical Assembly Technician role would suit someone who has exceptional mechanical based skills and experience, being able to read engineering drawings, using your ranging mechanical skill set, you will weld, fabricate and solder parts to build their highly complex instrumentation.

Typical duties for the Mechanical Assembly Technician:

• Welding, hard and soft soldering of parts.


• Assembly of products in line with engineering drawings.


• Leak testing of systems with helium.


• Occasional use of manual lathe and mill.


• Identifying tooling and equipment requirements to improve efficiency within assembly

Our client is looking for a Mechanical Assembly Technician who ideally has completed a mechanical apprenticeship or holds a mechanical qualification. You will have worked within a mechanical assembly environment, ideally instrumentation and possess some of the following skills:

• Mechanical fitting and assembly.


• Cryogen handling.


• Vacuum and leak testing.


• Soldering (hard and soft).


• Welding.


• Machining.


• Wiring.

This is a standard day shift role, working 8am-4:30pm Mon-Thurs and 8am-1pm on Friday.
