Mechanical Assembly Fitter
Right Hire Recruitment are currently recruiting for experienced Heavy Engineering Fitters to join a well-established manufacturing operation in a skilled, hands-on engineering role. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in heavy engineering, HGV, bus, rail, aerospace or motor mechanics who are looking to develop their skills within a professional production environment.
The Role
- As a Heavy Engineering Fitter, you will carry out skilled fitting, inspection, overhaul and assembly activities on large mechanical components and assemblies.
- Working as part of an experienced production team, you will be responsible for completing work safely, accurately and efficiently, while meeting quality standards and production deadlines.
- The role will involve:
- Inspection and measurement of components.
- Mechanical fitting and component overhaul.
- Building and assembling mechanical systems and components.
- Testing assemblies and systems.
- Following detailed work instructions, route cards and standard operating procedures.
- Recording work completed and signing off relevant documentation.
- Working as part of a team across different areas of the manufacturing process.
Salary & Benefits
- During training (approximately 12 weeks): £32,728.90 + 13% shift allowance
- After training: £35,113.47 + 13% shift allowance
- Pension contributions matched up to 5%
- 33 days annual leave, including Bank Holidays
Shift Pattern
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
- Days
- Monday–Thursday: 06:00–14:15
- Friday: 06:00–11:30
- Afters
- Monday–Thursday: 14:00–22:15
- Friday: 10:30–17:00
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area in line with 5S standards.
- Work safely when carrying out manual handling and lifting activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and working practices.
- Attend relevant training to develop your skills and knowledge.
About You
We are looking for candidates with a strong mechanical background and practical engineering experience.
Essential:
- Experience working in heavy engineering fitting or a similar mechanical environment.
- Suitable experience could include HGV, bus, rail, aerospace, motor mechanics or other heavy mechanical engineering backgrounds.
- Good mechanical fitting and hands-on engineering skills.
- Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow written and digital work instructions.
- Willingness to undertake a broad range of tasks and learn new skills.
- Basic understanding of Lean/5S principles.
Desirable:
- Apprentice-trained in a mechanical discipline.
- City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 qualification.
- Experience using pillar or overhead cranes — full training can be provided.
