Job summary

TXM Recruit are recruiting for 5 x Heavy Haul Mechanical & Electrical Fitters to work on Freight Trains/Rolling Stock at our Leeds Vehicle Maintenance Facility. The role involves maintaining, servicing and repairing locomotives to set maintenance plans, fault-finding with diagnostic equipment and completing paperwork to company standards.

Shift pattern is 4 on 4 off: 2 days, 2 nights, 7am–7pm and 7pm–7am. Ideally Level 3 certificate or apprentice trained in mechanical or electrical engineering.

Qualifications

• Level 3 certificate or apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
• DBS background checks and pre-employment screening will be conducted.
• Experience with locomotives/rolling stock is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, service, fault-find and repair locomotives per maintenance plans and engineering standards.
• Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Perform component removal, replacement, adjustment and overhaul per manufacturer specs.
• Inspect engines, braking systems, traction motors and control systems for defects.
• Record maintenance activities and repairs in maintenance management systems.
• Ensure paperwork for locomotive examinations and repairs is completed to company standards.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working environment.

Candidate background: Level 3 certificate EX FORCES Mechanical Engineer/HGV Technician/Plant Machinery Technician/Car trade backgrounds, Train/ locomotive/ rail knowledge would also be beneficial.

A vacancy has arisen for a multi skilled fitter to undertake the servicing, maintenance and repair of Locomotives at our Leeds Vehicle Maintenance Facility (LVMF).

What your key responsibilities will be:

• Maintain, service, fault-find and repair locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans, technical specifications, safety procedures and engineering standards to ensure reliability, operational efficiency and compliance.
• Maintain, service, fault-find and repair locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans, technical specifications and safety procedures.
• Carry out routine inspections, preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance to ensure locomotive reliability and operational availability.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment, tools and technical documentation.
• Perform component removal, replacement, adjustment and overhaul in accordance with manufacturer specifications and engineering standards.
• Inspect locomotive engines, braking systems, traction motors, control systems and auxiliary equipment to identify defects and potential failures.
• Conduct functional tests and operational checks following maintenance and repair activities to verify safe and reliable performance.
• Interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals and technical instructions to support effective fault diagnosis and repairs.
• Record all maintenance activities, defects, repairs and component replacements accurately in maintenance management systems and technical records.
• Ensure all relevant paperwork for locomotive examinations and repairs is correctly completed to company standards.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Qualifications

Ideally Level 3 certificate or apprentice trained in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline
