Job summary

MBDA is offering a 10-week placement for Mechanical and Climatic Engineers within Environmental Engineering & Facilities. You’ll experience a range of technical projects across MBDA products, including data gathering trials and laboratory testing, with hands-on opportunities and a supportive team.

The role provides learning opportunities, access to training platforms, and potential for a graduate offer. 5 days leave, pension up to 14%, and on-site facilities are included.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate working towards a degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Security Clearance: BPSS checks will be required after offer.
• Eligibility: British Citizen or dual UK national with British citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Learn how a weapon system is developed through risk reduction and qualification testing.
• Work on projects at different stages of the product development cycle.
• Gain hands-on experience in environmental and structural test requirements in a UKAS laboratory.
• Learn to measure, process and analyse data from trials and tests.
• Prepare and conduct off-site data gathering trials.

Mechanical and Climatic Engineers are at the forefront of ensuring MBDA products survive and operate as required throughout customer in-service use. This role is challenging and dynamic and works across the full range of MBDA products with a friendly and supportive team.,

• 10 week placement: Starting June 2027, that allows you to apply your university learning to real-world projects and technologies

The opportunity: During your placement as a Mechanical and Climatic Engineer in Environmental Engineering & Facilities (EE&F) you'll experience a wide variety of challenging technical projects including hands on work where you get a chance to influence real world engineering decisions, strategies, and designs. EE&F is made up of three domains; Test, Trials and Analysis, and Projects. Your placement could be focused in one or all three of these areas work, on a range of current products at different stages of the development cycle Each EE&F domain will enable you to gain experience and technical/soft skills whilst collaborating with partners from across, and external to, MBDA. You'll experience a challenging and technically exciting working environment, surrounded by a great support network within the department, experienced in hosting placement students. Areas of work could include specifying instrumentation / acquisition systems for data gathering trials, and conducting trials at external sites in close proximity to customer platforms, as well as testing, modelling and analysing data to prove our product complies with the requirements we set. During your placement you will:

• Learn how a weapon system is developed through risk reduction, design assessment and qualification testing for customer acceptance and in service use.
• Work on a range of projects at different stages of the product development cycle, as well as in service support.
• Gain hands on experience by understanding, preparing, and conducting environmental and structural test requirements in our UKAS accredited laboratory.
• Learn how to measure, process and analyse a variety of data from flight and firing trials, or from laboratory tests.
• Be involved with preparing and conducting off-site data gathering trials., You'll be able to choose between a variety of online learning platforms such as Percipio, YouLearn, Career Builder and Video Gateway. Each one is tailored to a specific type of learning. Speak to your line manager to find out more.

You'll have access to our Learning Gateway, which hosts the formal course catalogue and is where you can select the right training for your role and future development. Current undergraduate working towards a degree in an Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production and Manufacturing Engineering, Maths or Physics discipline.

Salary: £24,460 (pro-rata) Dynamic working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.
