It's a strategic opportunity to absorb critical site knowledge, take on increasing responsibility, and ultimately support a smooth transition of key expertise within the mechanical engineering function at Spalding Power Station.

If you would like the chance to be mentored directly by a highly experienced engineer while gradually building the confidence, experience, and technical depth needed to take ownership of the mechanical engineering and maintenance strategy, then we would love to hear from you!

The Spalding Team

We’re a close-knit team of highly skilled and experienced individuals who are dedicated to our vision: Best in Class Operations, an Empowered Team, and being the Best Place to Work. We embody a culture of safety, reliability, and enterprise which delivers flagship levels of plant performance and keeps us all engaged and energised in our mission – providing dependable and efficient Megawatts to help power the UK.

The Spalding site is a friendly, sociable, and exciting environment and when we’re not hard at work, you can expect regular social events and seasonal gatherings.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the management of all mechanical engineering assets, including steam and gas turbines, generators, HRSG, pressure systems, gas pipelines, and associated balance of plant equipment
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of outage work – developing scopes, managing budgets, and ensuring safe delivery
  • Monitoring asset health and driving performance improvements through structured engineering practices
  • Investigating plant issues and working collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams to implement long-term solutions
  • Leading or supporting mechanical projects from initiation through to completion, applying engineering rigour and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Stepping in to provide support or cover for Engineers where needed, and contributing to wider InterGen initiatives or secondments
  • Being on-call and adapting working patterns when required to meet business needs

Why you?

As our new Mechanical 2nd Engineer, you’ll be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment working within a lean team that values high performance. As this is a succession role, you’ll engage in ongoing training and coaching to develop the technical expertise needed to fully step into the Mechanical Engineer role and take on increasing responsibility.

You are someone who thrives on embracing responsibility and have a genuine passion for mechanical engineering and a strong desire to develop your expertise in a dynamic, hands-on environment. The technical challenges that come with managing complex mechanical assets excite you and you’re eager to learn more about the demands of the power station, growing your knowledge day by day. You can collaborate, communication and build relationships with the wider team and contractors well and can confidently adapt when the unexpected arises, always keeping the Spalding vision in mind.

Most importantly, you are motivated by the opportunity to grow within a supportive team. This role offers a clear path to becoming a trusted expert on site and you’ll join ready to invest your energy and skills to make a meaningful impact.

Education/Experience
