Ferguson Transport & Shipping is pleased to announce our 2025 HGV Mechanic Apprenticeship Opportunities

We are inviting candidates to apply for a three-year mechanic apprenticeship programme. In addition to working full time at our Workshop facilities in Corpach, Fort William you will attend GTG Training in Glasgow on a weekly block release every 2 months

Accommodation (including breakfast and evening meal) and travel is provided as part of the training programme whilst in Glasgow attending GTG.

You will be working towards gaining a SVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Heavy Goods Maintenance and continued full-time employment with Ferguson Transport & Shipping as a Mechanic.

Applicants must have: entitlement to work in the UK {No Visa Sponsorship available] and hold a car driving licence or be working towards this.

The Apprenticeship SVQ units to be completed include:

  • Using tools and equipment in motor vehicle engineering
  • Reducing risks to health & safety
  • Maintaining working relationships
  • Facilitating individuals’ learning and development
  • Inspecting commercial vehicles
  • Diagnosing and rectifying commercial vehicle engine and component faults
  • Diagnosing and rectifying motor vehicle electrical unit and component fault

Apprentices are supported internally by our qualified HGV Mechanics, putting their new skills and knowledge to good use on our HGV units, trailers and plant & machinery.

Regular assessments by a GTG assessor is carried out through practical observation in the workplace, along with online tests and job card evidence.

Following the formal apprenticeship training, the qualified Apprentice will continue as a qualified HGV Mechanic with Ferguson Transport & Shipping in Corpach, Fort William.
