Post Ref: CC420

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of Mayor’s Attendant/Macebearer to support the Mayoral team of Calderdale Council, delivering an effective front-line service to the Mayor and the civic party whilst he/she undertakes their civic duties.

The Mayor is the First Citizen of Calderdale and as such is an ambassador for both the District and the Council. The Mayor hosts an annual calendar of civic, ceremonial and charity functions throughout the year, which are coordinated by the Mayor’s Office. You will be required to assist in the organisation of each function using Microsoft applications. You will assist the Civic Office Manager in the day to day running of the Mayor’s Office including some deputising in their absence.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are provided with the use of a civic car to attend official functions and you will act as the chauffeur. You will accompany the Mayor and/or Deputy Mayor whenever he/she attends an official engagement and will be expected to ensure that Mayoral protocol is adhered to and be responsible for the security and upkeep of the civic regalia. All times adhering to detailed time schedules. You will also be responsible for vehicle checks and cleaning of the Mayoral car. A clean driving licence is essential.

This key role requires the applicant to have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team, use their own initiative, be flexible, and work well under pressure in a busy office environment. In this role you will need to demonstrate the ability to work tactfully in a political context, as when the Mayor is hosting a function you will need to ensure that all guests are welcomed in the correct manner and introductions are made.

This is an interesting and varied role and there are lots of benefits our employees can access. We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work, they do.

If you are an enthusiastic, friendly, confident individual with excellent interpersonal and IT skills we look forward to hearing from you!
