Job description


· To oversee Acute Specialist Medicine wards alongside another Matron from a managerial and clinical perspective and to ensure smooth running of the units, in conjunction with the ward managers.

· Monitoring and measuring the quality of care provided and taking necessary steps to improve care and associated processes when issues are identified

· To develop improvement plans, SOPs, research facilities studies and align resources to demands.

· To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the units and Trust wide.

· The post holder will have full responsibilities for the relevant nursing budget in conjunction with the senior nurse

· Provides education, expertise and mentorship to peers and junior staff members. Undertakes audit to ensure positive outcomes and identify areas for learning.

To work as a highly specialised member of the team to promote the safe, effective and responsive management

The post holder must also communicate effectively with other staff within the Trust, with external organisations and with the general public
• To oversee annual leave and sickness, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and to manage individuals performance as required

· Ability to communicate effectively in demanding and challenging situations.

Translate the Trust’s vision and the Nursing Strategy/improvement plan into a narrative that inspires staff and gives them clear objectives for the delivery of care



· Ensure that feedback is gathered from patients, service users a colleagues in order to help to develop service

· Delegate work appropriately and hold to account for delivery

· Teach and mentor others, including junior staff, students and other disciplines

· Manage and deliver to deadlines and within resources

· Ensure that all staff have an up to date appraisal and development plan so facilitating them to reach their full potentia

· Be professionally accountable for all aspects of own work and that of other team members and ensure care follows guidance for best prac

Lead with the recruitment and selection of staff.
