Job description

Due to promotion, an exciting opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior paediatric nurse to join our clinical team at Newham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group.

This post is for a dedicated senior children’s nurse who is passionate about providing and developing excellent services for children and young people.

As Matron, in acute paediatric services, you will be accountable for coordinating safe, high-quality, evidence-based care to improve the experience for children, young people, and their carers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the nursing team caring for children and young people within the Women’s and Children’s Division. They will work closely with the ADON and other senior nursing and midwifery staff across both the Division at Newham Hospital and the Group-wide Children’s Health Board.

The post holder will support the Governance agenda and work closely with their triumvirate colleagues, including service managers and clinical leads.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing nursing leadership and accountability for the children and young people’s service.
  2. Ensuring the highest standards of clinical care within your remit over the 24-hour period by providing strong professional leadership and line management to clinical staff.
  3. Supporting the delivery of equitable, person-centered, risk-managed services to users and carers, aligned with national, organizational, divisional, and Trust strategies, in partnership with other agencies.
  4. Setting clear expectations to support staff in delivering compassionate care, creating systems to ensure they remain connected to core values.
  5. Providing visible leadership to foster a culture of compassion, creativity, and candour, committed to improving the service user experience at every step of their care pathway.
  6. Working with specialty lead consultants and service managers to drive quality, safety, and financial efficiency.
  7. Working within the NHS Matrons charter for standards (2020).
  8. Deputising for the ADON as required.
